NBN.co Amazon Kuiper Satellite Internet replacement for Skymuster

We are expecting the new Kuiper Satellite alternative to Starlink arriving in Australia from mid 2026. Priced aggressively with fast speed internet this will be a real contender.

NBN Co has confirmed a landmark partnership with Amazon’s Project Kuiper to upgrade satellite internet accessibility across Australia, targeting a mid-2026 service launch.

The move will allow over 300,000 regional, rural, and remote premises—currently using Sky Muster—to access next-generation, wholesale fixed broadband via a vast constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, bringing faster and more dependable connectivity

Key Features of the NBN Kuiper Initiative

LEO Technology Leap: Instead of relying on geostationary satellites positioned 36,000km overhead, Project Kuiper’s network circulates much closer to Earth. This proximity slashes latency and enhances speed, drastically improving broadband performance for end users

Extensive Satellite Fleet:

Amazon expects the initial service rollout with a constellation of more than 3,200 Kuiper satellites, with 78 satellites already in orbit and more launches planned to complete the network

Smooth Customer Transition: NBN Co will continue its support for existing Sky Muster customers until the migration is completed, offering professional installation for eligible households at no upfront cost during the switch

The Transition and What to Expect

Project Kuiper’s mid-2026 rollout will begin in Tasmania, before coverage expands to other regional and remote areas

NBN is actively consulting with retail providers and community stakeholders regarding speed tiers, technical requirements, and pricing structures ahead of the official launch. The aim is to provide transparent information and seamless upgrades for all eligible locations

Both new and existing customers across the NBN satellite footprint will be able to register their interest and receive timely updates as rollout milestones are met

Table: NBN Co & Amazon Kuiper Rollout Overview: Will be free installation for existing NBN Skymuster clients and with hardware around $400-$600 and airtime from $90-$120 a month we are expecting great things from Kuiper.
