With the Beam Remote
Satellite Terminal, RST100, there is no special dialling sequences
to remember, and to make it even easier the terminal produces country
specific, ring, dial and busy tones that are fully configurable
to ensure there is no confusion by the user.

Installation |
|
|
|
|
 The
beam Remote Satellite Terminal is easily installed into any location,
the ability to use standard telephone wire for in excess of one
thousands metres 3000/feet to the point at which you require to
integrate to the PBX system or the point where you would connect
your first phone handset provides great flexibility. The ability
to run the standard telephone cable of long distances then reduces
the need to have extremely heavy, long and costly Antenna cabling.
Multiple handsets can also be connected to the one line, making
easy access from any location in specific installations like farmhouse.
The Remote Satellite terminal will support all Iridium Voice,
Data and Messaging Services along with Crew calling and or prepaid
services where required. Data access is through the Comm. port
of the RST100, which supports standard RS232 line specifications
and can therefore also be run over long distances with ease.

The Iridium Satellite network provides a robust network for
supporting a global tracking application, with global coverage
from pole to pole and the use of low powered antennas that are
omni directional this makes a Beam TrackALERT system your desired
installation for any application.

All Beam terminals support all of the Iridium Data services
available. This then provides a flexible means by which to communicate
using one or more of the following protocols; Circuit Switched
Data, Short Message Service, Direct Internet and Short Burst
Data.

Voice Services |
|
|
|
|
Whilst all data services are available on any Beam device,
selected Beam terminals offer varying voice service features.
Any voice supported terminal will allow the use of an Intelligent
Handset, however the Beam Remote Satellite Terminal, RST100,
allows the use of standard phone equipment through its intelligent
RJ11 connectivity. This means that standard cordless, corded
or PBX systems can be integrated for voice communications on
this terminal.

 Using
the RJ11 port connection of the RST100 enables an integrated PBX
solution to be deployed for in-building use. Once integrated with
a PBX system this will enable any extension within the PBX system
to access a satellite line for making or receiving calls. This
is an ideal way to save costs for head office to remote location
communications.

Handset |
|

|
|
The Beam Intelligent Handset, RST970, is an ideal accessory
for voice and SMS communications. The handset is compact, lightweight,
easy to install and comes complete with hang-up cup and mounting
brackets. The handset has a built in ringer, supports full SMS
functionality as well as an easy menu system to access phone
settings. The Intelligent handset is included in an In-Vehicle
Telephone Kit as well as the Beam RST973 In-vehicle accessory
kit.

There are some major cost benefits of installing a fixed terminal
to head office location whereby there is a need for office to
remote location communications. The cost of making an Iridium-to-Iridium
call is cheaper than making PSTN to Iridium or vice versa.

The Beam TrackALERT terminals are an intelligent Alert / Tracking
and Monitoring unit all in one and are available for all Beam
communication terminals. TrackALERT allows the deployment of
various applications, including vehicle, asset, and or asset
tracking, monitoring and condition reporting as well as remote
control and configuration. Alert/Alarm monitoring applications
can also be simply deployed.
The TrackALERT interface is highly intelligent and the ability
to configure many parameters in the terminal locally or remotely
enables a great deal of customization and flexibility.

Power Input |

|
The Beam terminals support 11-32V DC power input. An AC plug-pack
is supplied with all terminals, which therefore makes it very
easy to connect to mains or DC power. The use of an RST050 Beam
Battery Back-up is also an ideal accessory where communication
needs to be guaranteed.

|

Connection
of Other Equipment/Devices
|
|
|
|
|
Beam terminals will support the connection of a third party
device through the DB9 Data connection, enabling Data Loggers,
Meter Readers and other terminal devices to be easily connected
to Satellite Communications.

Remote Diagnostics |
|
|
|
|
Using SMS or SBD with the intelligence built into the Beam
RST100 and RST200 terminals it is possible to remotely configure
the communication terminal as well, run diagnostic checks, check
signal strength, temperature and call logs as well as the ability
to have automated reporting for “still alive” reporting
if required.
It is also possible to perform some simple polling of a device
plugged into the Log Port of the terminal. This can be a very
cost effective means of low-level position and condition reporting.

The RST100 terminal allows for various installation
options. It si possible to run the RJ11 cable over very long
distances, whilst the antenna cabling is limited to a 3db loss.
Therefore it is more important to keep the main terminal as close
to the antenna as possible to then use the flexibility of standard
phone wire to connect to the user interface or PBX system.

|
Whilst the installation and integration to the terminal is
very straight forward, selecting the appropriate antenna and
antenna cable for the installation is also important to ensure
greatest call quality over the satellite network. There is a
range of suitable antenna installation types for various applications.
In order to maximize the signal penetration in some locations
the antenna can be installed some distances away from the main
terminal in a more appropriate location.
The antenna should always have as clear line of sight to the
sky as possible, eight degrees above the horizon is always ideal,
however the clearer the view to the sky the greater the reliability
of service.
The maximum loss for an antenna cable installed to any Iridium
device is 3db maximum. Exceeding this loss will affect reliability
and call quality.
